John Vernon- Aslan's Final Reminder
“Here on the mountain I have spoken to you clearly: I will not often do so down in Narnia. Here on the mountain, the air is clear and your mind is clear; as you drop down into Narnia, the air will thicken. Take great care that it does not confuse your mind. And the signs which you have learned here will not look at all as you expect them to look, when you meet them there. That is why it is so important to know them by heart and pay no attention to appearances. Remember the signs and believe the signs. Nothing else matters” (Silver Chair).
I love this passage from the Silver Chair by C.S. Lewis and its imagery of searching for truth and beauty in Jesus. I feel that Lewis is warning us to be cautious and not get distracted by the world around us. The signs that the character Aslan refers to, I believe, are the many times that God reminds us of His presence and what living for Him brings us. I feel that Lewis is encouraging us to trust in our heart, and trust that God will meet us where we are at. At times, we get distracted by thoughts of the world and believe in lies of the enemy, instead of believing in the signs and truth God has taught us.
