Taylor Duffy - Insignificant Words are Significant

12/1

Ratzinger's article talks about how even God's silence is important and meaningful to the Christian religion. One would not usually consider silence to be so important. Our world is constantly filled with words and noises, each person trying to be heard over the other. Even though we may not recognize it, silence is important because it is rare. God was trying to tell them something through his silence. Something so insignificant was therefore significant.

This made me think of our discussion in class about the word "there." That small, insignificant word referring to a place actually created a place along with light in that short command. There are such insignificant words or things to us that actually carry a lot of power, like silence and "there." It makes me wonder what other things we are looking past because they don't speak the loudest or carry the most strength. The same goes for beauty as it does for power. There's so much beauty in the world that we miss everyday because it is not the popular idea of beauty or whatever it may be. Just like the trash bag at the beginning of the school year, its beauty is so faint yet still remains. Maybe if we decided to look closer, we would see more beauty in the everyday things, and therefore life altogether would become more beautiful.
