Taylor Duffy - Joy and Suffering

12/6

"Everywhere a greater joy is preceded by a greater suffering."

This is something that moves across religions. Like we talked about in class, the resurrection. Before Jesus was able to rise from the dead and proclaim that he was God, he underwent the worst agony one could ever face. He was tormented and tortured, and left to die. He was betrayed by one of his best friends.

This can also be seen with yin and yang. This is from Taoism and yang is the lighter side of the circle that has the small black circle. It is the representation that even in the good, there is the tiniest bit of bad. (yin is that even in the worst of times, there is a silver lining.) Yang shows the small preceded suffering while showing the even greater joy.

One could even argue karma works with this. Good and bad, joy and suffering is constantly going and coming around. Life is a rollercoaster of ups and downs. I just really liked this quote the speaker shared because it shows that even if you're having a really sucky day, it might just be because you are about to experience the greatest joy.
